The road is still long, but workers are gradually making progress in the struggle to become permanent. On 30 July 2015 Labour broker workers could claim another victory. Sixty five former labour broker workers signed permanent contracts with their company.
The 65 workers came to CWAO to assist them with taking their case to the CCMA. They were working at SGB through labour broker Sizabantu Labour Hire for more than three months and in some cases years.
The company was not amused by their actions. The workers were refused access to their workplace and some even got fired. David Cartwright Attorneys, who’s assisting CWAO, intervened in the matter. In a private meeting, David Cartwright was able to convince the CEO of SGB to give the workers permanent contracts. The workers are now permanent employees of SGB.
