The Casual Workers' Advice Office (CWAO) is referring a dispute to the CCCMA for a group of 21 Germiston-based women workers who were fired unjustifiably by the labour broker Phakisa on 18 November 2022.
The women workers, all of whom are vulnerable (either single mothers, or breadwinners to large families) held a peaceful protest outside the Nature’s Garden (frozen vegetables) factory on 10 October, to highlight their longstanding demand to be made permanent, in line with the Labour Relations Act which states that all workers hired through labour brokers must be employed directly by the client company after 3 months.
