On 18 October 2023, The Unpaid Benefits Campaign held it's first successful AGM after it's launch in 2017. The AGM was co- hosted by the CWAO/ILRIG at the CWAO offices in Germiston.
The UBC in Gauteng operates in 5 branches and 50 delegates attended the event with 10 from each branch. Among the allies of the Campaign who attended were Rosemary Hunter of Fasken, Bhavna Ramji of Pension Justice, Letlhogonolo Letshele of Open Secrets and Simon Ramapuputla of WWMP.
Delegates were able to share experiences and deliberate an organizational overview. Finally, 15 members of the steering committee were elected to manage the affairs of the campaign until the next AGM.
(The Unpaid Benefits Campaign advocates for the nearly R50 billion in unpaid pension funds to be paid out to those who have been trying to claim their pensions back, sometimes for years. Read more about the campaign here: https://www.opensecrets.org.za/.../pensions/unpaid-benefits/).
