his has been an ongoing struggle at this workplace. In June 2023, the boss stopped paying workers and then tried to insist that they sign new employment contracts. When the workers refused, the boss fired them (some had been working at the farm for 13 years at that point). The workers won their unfair dismissal case at the CCMA and were reinstated by June 2024 with compensation. The Simunye Workers Forum - SWF has also won cases against short payment and to enforce payment of the National Minimum Wage at the farm. Despite this, the boss continues to stop paying wages from time to time. After striking on Monday, the boss agreed to pay all workers and to cough up the R8000 he owed from November to several workers. We will continue this struggle!
