On 28 May, CWAO and Simunye Workers Forum comrades turned out in full support of the Joburg protest against Glencore!
Glencore is one of the largest mining companies in the world, extracting coal, cobalt, copper, crude oil and other minerals and metals from more than 35 countries. It is very much involved in Israel's mass killing and genocide of Palestinians. This is because it sent 1,5 million tons of coal from Colombia, Russia and South Africa to Israel in 2023.
Glencore also funds paramilitary groups that repress unions, and uses child labour in cobalt and copper mines in DRC. Glencore is subject to bribery and corruption charges in the UK, US and Brazil for multiple operations in DRC, Nigeria, Venezuela and other countries. It pollutes the atmosphere - on its own, it causes 1% of greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming.
