CWAO Legal Organiser Joshua Hlongwe reports that on 18 June 2024, the seven workers who were fired from ZGG Farm and Zanthe Flora in Gauteng were reinstated.

The CWAO tirelessly fought this case for several months, until winning it in the CCMA. Workers will also be paid R10 000 each and will return to work on 24 June 2024.

The workers had been employed at the company for up to 13 years when the boss stopped paying them in June 2023. They were then dismissed in November 2023 because they did not want to sign a new contract of employment. The case then went to arbitration on 31 January 2024 but the bosses did not show up. The workers have finally won, defeating their unfair dismissal.

The CWAO still has another case against the farm on 20 June for non-compliance with the National Minimum Wage and for short-paid salaries.
