I am from Katlehong Mandela, Zone 1. Our community has been facing struggles for such a long time.
Firstly, crime is one of our problems. It comes with darkness. As you all know, we live in a country that is facing power outages known as load shedding. Load shedding affects our community as well because it becomes so easy for crime to occur especially when loadshedding happens at night.
Secondly, we have a high rate of unemployment here. We are facing adult and youth unemployment. People are not working. They depend on social grants (most of them). Third, we also have the problem of sewage control. This one takes the cup. The sewage does not only seep into roads but also affects our health. It increases the risk of cancer and causes other serious health issues. Living with sewage-related issues can cause stress.
Fourth, drug and alcohol abuse is a problem. Drugs are used like nobody's business in our community. Our people seriously need help because it is really getting out of hand. Talking about alcohol, this affects both our youth and adults. It is really trending to drink alcohol in my community.
Fifth, we have a problem with infrastructure. Our roads are really bad - they have potholes, not small but big potholes. Cars really struggle when they have to pass drive along.
